The designated date for International Yoga Day 2024 is June 21st. The theme for this year is "Yoga for Self and Society," emphasizing the dual benefits of yoga practice: enhancing personal well-being and contributing to societal improvement. The theme underscores the importance of inner peace and self-care as foundations for a happy and healthy life. Through yoga, practitioners can manage emotions, reduce stress, and cultivate self-awareness.

International Yoga Day 2024: History and Significance --
The inception of International Yoga Day traces back to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 address to the UN General Assembly, where he proposed a global day to honor yoga. In December 2014, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to observe June 21st as International Yoga Day, recognizing yoga’s universal appeal. This date, coinciding with the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolizes growth, renewal, and a deep connection with nature and oneself.

Since its inception, International Yoga Day has grown substantially. Governments, yoga institutes, and individuals globally organize large-scale yoga sessions, workshops, and cultural events. The day serves as a powerful platform for raising awareness about yoga’s numerous benefits for a balanced, healthy life. Various studies have shown yoga’s effectiveness in enhancing physical fitness, reducing stress and anxiety, improving general well-being, and promoting better sleep quality.
